Ceramic Coating Aftercare: The First Week

The first week is about letting the coating finish curing. Wait about seven days before washing so the coating can fully harden, and keep the car dry for the first 24 to 48 hours so it sets properly. We give you exact instructions at pickup — this guide explains the why behind them.

A coating is mostly cured when you pick the car up, but it keeps hardening over the following days. A few simple habits during that window protect the result for years.

The first 24–48 hours: keep it dry

This is the most important window. While the coating is still setting:

• Avoid rain and water exposure — water can interfere with the cure and cause spotting
• Don't wash the car — no rinses, no wipe-downs
• Park in a garage or covered area if you can
• If the car does get wet, dry it gently with a clean microfiber towel

The first week: no washing

For roughly seven days, hold off on washing entirely so the coating can reach full hardness. During this week:

• Skip car washes of any kind, especially automatic ones
• Avoid parking under trees where sap or droppings can land
• If something acidic lands (a bird dropping, for example), gently remove it with a damp microfiber towel and a light mist of water rather than scrubbing

What to avoid in the early days

A few things can compromise a fresh coating, so steer clear of:

• Automatic brush car washes — abrasive and damaging at any time, but especially now
• Harsh chemicals or strong degreasers
• Wax or sealant products — a coating doesn't need them and they can interfere with it

After the first week
